Before they carry out their plan, Cruise asks the Mother about her past. She explains that while serving in the Middle East for the US Army, she was recruited by ex-SAS soldier, Adrian Lovell, for illegal arms trading. Having no one to go back to, she decided to think about it for her future. Zoe makes it back to her mother, but Lovell now has his gun pointed at them and The Mother begs her daughter to run so she can take on the villain alone. If there is a "The Mother 2," Lopez and Paez are on board, and they're already brimming with ideas. "The sequel will definitely be 'The Daughter,'" Paez added, seconding the title.
The Mother Ending, Explained: Is The Mother Dead? Is Zoe Safe?
Using a trick learned during her survival training, Zoe shoots a salt round at Adrian and The Mother as they tussle. The non-lethal round interrupts the fight, and knocks Adrian and The Mother down the side of a hill. Fearing the worst, Zoe runs to help The Mother, who has been knocked unconscious. Unfortunately, this gives Adrian an opening to kidnap Zoe, and throw her into his car.
Tom Cruise’s Mother, Mary Lee South, Dies
"When I was growing up, if you went to Hollywood, that was really risque." Tom Cruise arrives with his mother, Mary South, for the 61st Annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif. Cruise told PEOPLE in 2006 that his father was “a bully.” Mary Lee ended the marriage in 1974. The story is a practically rudderless existence since the final two acts repeat themselves in vastly different settings. That’s the carrot, now here’s the stick — twelve years later, her old employers locate her missing daughter, Zoe (Lucy Paez), and use her as a pawn by kidnapping her in order to draw Mother out.
Tom Cruise’s Daughter, 17, Is Called Dad’s ‘Spitting Image’ after Her NYC Stroll in Stylish Outfit
“I should be cryin’ but I just can’t let it show baby,” Bush croons as Lopez smiles and looks on. It’s a fitting goodbye to the stoic Mother and her newly reforged bond with her daughter. Of course, between bonding exercises, the Mother and Zoe still have to fight off the men determined to split them apart once again. After rescuing Zoe from Hector and dispatching him with ease, the duo escape Adrian’s clutches and head to Alaska, where the Mother gives her daughter a crash course in survival instincts. She is a better aim than her daughter, so all that remains of Lovell's head is some blood and goo on the truck's windscreen.
While The Mother features a lot of action and some impressive stunts, the relationship between Zoe and her birth mom is the real heart of the film. "It’s a slow process from where she has Zoe in her care and she has to have a relationship with a child [who] is a stranger to her," Caro told Tudum. A rep for Cruise told ET that South died peacefully in her sleep last week after battling recent health issues. Lopez describes the "The Mother" as "emotional and action-packed," and explains that it's not just about a mother's instinct to protect her children.

In a key scene of the film, Maverick pays a visit to Iceman's home and we see that the admiral is suffering from throat cancer and must type his words out to communicate with Maverick. Despite facing his most dangerous mission yet, Maverick leads a team to destroy a uranium enrichment facility of an unnamed rogue nation and against all odds they succeed. Cruise was born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV in Syracuse, New York, in 1962 to South and Thomas Cruise Mapother III, an electrical engineer. The family grew up near poverty and moved around several times; Cruise spent some of his formative years in Canada. "I was always interested in theater, but I never did anything with it," she told Rolling Stone in 1986.
Zoe goes to check on her mom but is captured by Adrian and forced into a car. As they drive off, the Mother wakes up and realizes she wasn’t actually shot with a real bullet. She grabs the sniper gun near her and shoots at Adrian, killing him. Then, the movie ends with the Mother returning Zoe to her adoptive parents.
The Mother and Zoe forge an unbreakable bond.
The film Jennifer Lopez as the mother while Lucy Paez plays the part of her teenage daughter. So, let’s find out what happened in their lives, why they got separated in the first place, and how a mother fiercely protected her daughter against all odds. With Adrian hunting them down, The Mother retreats to Alaska where she's been hiding out since Zoe's birth. There, she trains her daughter in survival skills, target practice, and knife work. Relations remain tense, but The Mother endeavors to equip her daughter with everything she might need to survive an attack from dangerous people.

How does Lovell find them?
The wolves represent the innate and primal drive that even human mothers have to rear and protect their children. In flashbacks, we learn the Mother met the film's two antagonists — Adrian Lovell (Joseph Fiennes) and Hector Álvarez (Gael García Bernal) — while she was stationed in Afghanistan and at Guantanamo Bay. Lovell, her sniper trainer, recruited her into arms dealing and she caught Álvarez skimming guns. She used romantic relationships with both men to set up mutually beneficial business interests.
"The Mother" is, for the most part, a traditional action movie with set pieces that come rapid fire one after another. But the film pauses for about 15 minutes before its finale to let the Mother and Zoe get to know each other, and much of that stretch has to do with the laws of nature. Zoe finally reaches where her mom is but is captured by one of Adrian’s men. Instead, she uses a sniper gun and watches her mom and Adrian fight. Jennifer Lopez makes her return to the small screen with her new movie The Mother, now streaming on Netflix.

Cruise knew that they were planning to kidnap her, and as he had promised, he informed his old friend about it. Cruise told her that her daughter’s name was Zoe, and she had been very lucky as she found the best foster parents anybody could ask for. Like a tigress, the Mother tried protecting her daughter, but Hector Alvares got the better of her, and his men took Zoe with them.
"The Mother" doesn't conclude with a cliffhanger that would necessitate a future installment, but it does end on a slightly ambiguous note. We don't know what comes next for either of the main characters, though — conveniently — we do know that Zoe is ready to kick butt just like her mom after months of intense training in the frozen wilderness. Should the military or the FBI need help taking on any more international networks of nefarious baddies, Lopez and Paez are ready.
Later, The Mother reveals to Agent Cruise that she worked with Lovell during her military service in Afghanistan. After her service, she became involved in Lovell’s illegal arms-selling operation and met his biggest client, Álvarez. However, The Mother refuses to acknowledge either Lovell or Álvarez as Zoe’s biological father.
Cruise and the informant reached Cuba, where they first killed Tarantula, one of the top lieutenants of Hector’s army, and then reached the mansion of the devil himself. The informant rescued her daughter and then went on to confront Alvarez, kill him, and burn his entire mansion down. An informant (Jennifer Lopez) was being held in a safe house in Linton, Indiana, as she was being interrogated by two agents from the FBI. The informant had worked closely with Hector Alvares and Adrian Lovell, names that were on the FBI’s most wanted list, and brokered an arms deal between them. The informant had been in the armed forces and was posted in Afghanistan when she met Adrian Lovell for the first time.
In a prologue, we see that the Mother is a pregnant FBI informant. She warns the agents in her safe house, including William Cruise (Omari Hardwick), that something bad's about to go down. After it does, she's forced to sign over her newborn daughter (whom she nearly lost in a knife attack) to protective custody and relocate to remote Alaska. 12 years later, a criminal syndicate has IDed the girl, named Zoe by her adoptive parents (Lucy Paez), and wants revenge. Lopez's character gets back into action with Cruise as her sidekick to save the life of the child she only knows from pictures. When the opportunity comes, she shoots at Adrian, and he and her mom fall to the ground.
